As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation and advance human rights principles in the United Arab Emirates, the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) conducted an introductory visit to the Sharjah Police General Headquarters.
His Excellency Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, welcomed the NHRI delegation, which was led by Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI. The delegation included NHRI Board of Trustees Members Dr. Ahmed Al Mansoori, Dr. Zayed Al Shamsi, and Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Noman, along with H.E. Dr. Saeed Al Ghfeli, NHRI Secretary-General; Amro Al Qahtani, Director of the Chairperson’s Office; Abdulazeez Al Obthani, Head of International and Regional Organizations; Fatima Al Hosani, Head of Awareness and Education; and Klaithem Al Kaabi from the Media Center.
The visit aimed to foster areas of mutual cooperation and enhance coordination between the two institutions in support of shared goals.
During the meeting, the NHRI delegation presented an overview of the Institution’s mandate and its role in protecting and promoting human rights. They emphasized the importance of close collaboration with police and security authorities to uphold justice and safeguard fundamental rights.
Commenting on the visit, Maqsoud Kruse stated: “This visit reflects the NHRI’s commitment to building constructive partnerships with key local institutions and to raising awareness among personnel in vital sectors about the NHRI’s mission and mechanisms. Together, we can help promote an environment that protects rights and freedoms.”
The visit concluded with a tour of the Sharjah Police General Headquarters, where the NHRI delegation was briefed on best practices in community engagement and the measures in place to ensure respect for human rights during security operations.
